6/20: Where to start. Probably most important is carrier support.I was unable to activate with AT&T or Cricket. Ended up switching to T-Mobile for $20 more/mo and inferior Coverage area. In addition, T-Mobile only supports the phone on LTE so far, tho I'm paying for 5G. So those are some big caveats you might have to consider... That's PART of the distaste.I was able to Google-copy much of my old apps, text, calendar, alarms and contacts over.Some apps didn't copy (tunein) and other apps copied but don't seem to work, including netguard.As for the phone itself , I required a few hard to find features including 3.5mm headphone jack (to interface with my old car stereo which has sketchy Bluetooth) . This is an increasingly rare feature, especially on more expensive phones including the 10T and 10T pro!??? I suppose the new mantra for phones is "Pay more, get Less features" that's a Woke approach if there ever was one.Another required feature is the infra-red blaster which amazingly is still included on many Xiaomi phones. Yay.I also require SD card expansion, another increasingly rare feature. I did prefer my old redmi lite which allowed simultaneous use of twin SIM cards and an SD card, where this phone makes you choose one or the other, even though a 7" chassis should have significantly more interior space.Having narrowed my options to a mere TWO existing 5G phones with these features, both being Chinese manufactured, of course, since almost all are.Another caveat is the dueling spec descriptions regarding stereo speakers... From my observation this is a DUAL speaker phone, NOT a stereo speaker phone. You get about 15% less volume from the top speaker. And it does not appear to be stereo. However, since I often find myself covering the bottom speaker with my hand, I do find the dual speaker setup useful.It also came in handy in a loud crowded (post-Wuhan) restaurant where we were able to position the phone between us and each able to hear the streaming audio thanks to the 2nd speaker.Loudness of these speakers is our standard cell phone expectation, not extremely loud and of course no bass response at all.The huge IPS screen is a very pleasant surprise, I had hoped to get an OLED panel but that was an option I had to relenquish for other features (but also gave me a lower priced phone) . I have since discovered that even the famous touted iPad retina display uses an IPS screen, and I've never heard anyone complain. I do notice a significant improvement from my old Redmi6 IPS screen, so I am quite satisfied with this tradeoff! The power button being recessed into the body is an adjustment. At first I was doubtful it would be useful, but I soon discovered it was much easier to distinguish the power and volume buttons. That was always a problem on the redmi 6.The tiny selfy cam is soo much better than the notch. I barely even notice that it's there.I like the miui 12 interface but it has its idiosyncrasies, for instance to rearrange the quicklaunch dropdown menu, you have to expand it and go to 3rd page to find an option called "edit". There are no instructions for this on Internet because it's different than the Samsung, etc.The widgets they include for weather and time often take up extra tile space for nothing.The 120hz screen works fine in 60hz mode. I had read that it had a 90hz setting but all I can find is 60hz and 120hzi have not tried the 120hz setting, I've heard it's a battery killer, 60hz seems fine to me.After 2 weeks of use the LTE has been faster than I had expected. Though T-Mobile definitely does not have the best coverage. The phone does not pick up the towers as well as my old Samsung phone, but it's close. Despite the difficulties, I am quite pleased with the phone. I would definitely buy it again.Update 6/29: I was travelling in a new area today and I was pleasantly surprised to see a 4G emblem on my display. So apparently 4G is supported w/tmobile, just not on the side of town where I live.
